Really wanting a New Edge Mustang. 25mpg on the highway, 260hp, 300 lbs/tq and it is a Mustang. How can you not want one for under $5,000? Cheap, fun, heritage.

It might not be luxurious at all but I imagine it is a blast.

It’s spelled G-O-O-D

This is a good idea.

Dude, not a bad idea at all! I have one for the same reason. I have been dailying it for a few weeks and cant get enough!
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:17 |

That’s only a good buy if you can’t find a clean f-body in that price range.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:18 |

Good god those cars are cheap in your area! Those are killer cars for that money.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:20 |

As a previous owner of a 2000 V6 and a 2004 GT I understand.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:21 |

The only drawback is the cheap plastic interior. Other than that you’re golden.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:21 |

F body is definitely harder to find. I've only driven the F body between these two, really loved the way it drove.

DO IT
Take off the spoiler like mycarneverruns87 did to his, it makes them look awesome.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:25 |

I’ve driven the next generation Mustang, and ridden in an F-body. Saying I’m not a GM fan is an understatement, but even I’ll admit it’s the better car.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:26 |

I have looked around F bodies are harder to come by. And the ones I do find have the LT1
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:26 |

I saw your post early didn’t get to comment that is a beautiful New Edge. They look a lot cleaner without the rear spoiler
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:27 |

Or possibly G-R-E-A-T.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:27 |

A friend of mine used to have an ‘03 Mach 1. That was a ridiculously fun car...
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:27 |

I know! I really think they are more than worth it for the price. Damn insurance is the only issue
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:27 |

Way better than the A8 I have been lusting after
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:27 |

Thank you and I agree...unless it is a Terminator...I like their spoilers.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:29 |

Really? Well in stock form is the horsepower good for the GT?
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:29 |
|
I agree they look so much better with no rear spoiler!
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:30 |
|
Mach 1 has like 40 more horsepower and a shaker hood that is the ultimate New Edge
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:30 |
|
Haha I really want to. There is a cool Mustang doc on Netflix you should watch
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:31 |
|
Way better than some of the unreliable German stuff posted on here. And cheaper!
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:31 |
|
I know! I keep noticing it, but I never get around to it.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:31 |
|
Nope. Ultimate New Edge is the SVT Cobra.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:34 |
|
Yes it is. The GT is a well-rounded car. It puts out reasonable numbers, makes a great noise and feels lighter than you would expect. Ours was automatic (unfortunately) but that didn’t stop it from being fun.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:36 |
|
Such a cheap interior! But I dd a 2000 S10 is really not all that different.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:36 |
|
This is only a bad idea if you can find a similar condition LS1 Cambird (hardtop/T56) within $500-$1000....and can swing that, obviously.
Otherwise, yes, this is a great bad idea.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 16:40 |
|
Exactly right. The New Edge car’s styling has never really grown on me, but I like the Bullitt and Mach 1 in a big way. I also like old Fox Mustangs, so my aesthetic taste may be suspect. I search for Fox 5.0s at least once a week.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 17:46 |

I didn’t realize the Terminator had different spoilers
![]() 02/25/2016 at 17:46 |

Worth it if you have the time!
![]() 02/25/2016 at 17:47 |
|
Yeah but that is like unoptainum
![]() 02/25/2016 at 17:47 |
|
I am sure it was still a blast? Was it an ok car in the corners?
![]() 02/25/2016 at 17:48 |
|
Yeah they are not really showing up in the same price range unfortunately which is disappointing I always loved the Firebird
![]() 02/25/2016 at 17:49 |
|
The New Edge is good but not great. It is a little over styled. But I agree the Fox is the better looking Mustang just not as much ponies
![]() 02/25/2016 at 17:55 |
|
Then there’s the endless after market black hole.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 17:56 |
|
Yeah if I were to get one I am not sure I would want to be sucked into that black hole. $$$
![]() 02/25/2016 at 17:59 |

![]() 02/25/2016 at 18:03 |

Yikes that is expensive!
![]() 02/25/2016 at 18:10 |

I would grab one if something happened to my TC, as they are not far off from what I could afford, they are good, fun cars for the price.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 18:15 |
|
Exactly. For the price I don’t think there is anything better out there.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 18:22 |
|
Yeah, just avoid the ones that were beaten half to death by the bros' who think that mashing the gas pedal from light to light is the way to drive those cars and you should be good.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 18:38 |
|
It was still a blast, yeah. As for corners, it took them. No real competency (it was factory) and our S40 handles em better. I’d give the cornering ability a "meh". One of the reasons we don't have a GT as our dd anymore.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 18:43 |
|
I look at the stock Mustangs. My thought process is that if the car is stock it was likely owned by someone a little more mature.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 18:45 |
|
Fair enough. It was an old Mustang after all. I imagine it was still good fun on a Sunday drive though on a back road
![]() 02/25/2016 at 18:47 |
|
Yup (granted 5 years old wasn’t considered an "old Mustang" at the time). It was great fun around town. Our back roads are mountain twisties :)
![]() 02/25/2016 at 18:55 |
|
No mountains in southern Ohio but there are defiantly twists in the Appalachian foot hills!
![]() 02/25/2016 at 19:47 |
|
Yeah, but those sway bars, and maybe a new catback...
![]() 02/25/2016 at 20:35 |
|
Haha they would definitely add some flavor to an already great product
![]() 02/25/2016 at 20:45 |

The new edges have been around long enough so you can see what aftermarket modifications are good and which ones are utter crap. Gears, exhaust, bigger throttle body, dyno tune. Noticeable difference without going crazy. If you wanna up the ante you can put a blower on. Some people have luck with used ones. I’d shy away from that unless you could see it in person before purchase and I’d shy away from supercharging a daily driver as well.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 20:52 |
|
I would personally get a stock one. And then build it the way I would want it to be if I wanted to take it away from stock.
![]() 02/25/2016 at 23:29 |
|
I’ll tell you now that my Mach 1 does not get anywhere near 25MPG. Highway driving to. Though I’m probably to blame for that.
And being that everything I found at 10K was trashed and beat up it might be a bit difficult trying to find a nicer one. They’re out there, my Mach ended up being cleaner, cheaper, in better shape and had less mileage than any other GT I found. That said the two you found don’t look bad at all. Especially for 5K.
But you’re right, these cars are so much fun and still look great today. I love mine and don’t want anything else. Hearing the noise from the V8 and seeing the shaker tilt on acceleration is the coolest thing ever.
![]() 02/26/2016 at 09:04 |
|
Yup, they fit lower to the trunk
![]() 02/26/2016 at 09:16 |
|
Only reason I don’t rock a Mustang is because i need the second set of doors
You can always do upgrades to the suspension if you want to. They can be had rather cheap too.
![]() 02/26/2016 at 10:38 |
|
I don’t think I could swing a Mach 1 (although I would love to). I think the MPG issue has something to do with the engine too. The 4v 300hp in the Mach 1 is likely a bit more of a gas hog than the 3v 260hp in a GT.
As for the pricing I think it has something to do with the era of the country I am located in. Ohio doesn’t make for a good Mustang DD state which might be what is driving down the costs.
And I imagine the engine sounds great under acceleration. And in Southern Ohio where I live I imagine the GT would be fun enough in the corners.
![]() 02/26/2016 at 10:39 |
|
Now that spoiler fits the body lines better. I like it
![]() 02/26/2016 at 10:40 |
|
You son is still young he could fit in the back seat!
Suspension upgrades would be nice but I am afraid it would compromise daily livability.
![]() 02/26/2016 at 11:11 |
|
it might but you can always find a balance between upgrades and full on race car.
it’s not that he wouldn’t fit, I’m sure he would. It’s that it would be a pain in the ass haha
![]() 02/26/2016 at 11:31 |

Gotta make scarifies for performance! Both with kids and the ride of the car.
![]() 02/26/2016 at 11:52 |

Haha
It’s one of the reasons why when classic car shopping I made sure there were more seats in it. 6 seatbelts in the Montego
![]() 02/26/2016 at 11:56 |

No shit? That is impressive.
![]() 02/26/2016 at 11:56 |

basically, guy who sold it to me was like, it’s a perfect car to take your wife out for a cruise if you know what I mean, she can slide right over to the middle with you....
....awkward....
![]() 02/26/2016 at 12:06 |
|
I didn’t think I could either. I barley thought a V6 was an option. But the stars aligned and it happened. And I’m not to sure about the gas mileage. My friend’s 2V’s actually get worse mileage than mine, albeit they beat on their cars a whole lot more than I do. And have some mods which might not help. Then you have my Dad’s new Mustang, nearly 700HP and is only getting 1 MPG less than his stock 2014. So really anything could be a factor.
My car has been a really great DD though. The clutch is light (To me, my dad says it’s heavy, I guess you get used to it), it rides nice and... Well I really have no complaints. Sure the interior isn’t the greatest but the seats are nice so I’m happy with it. I’ve even driven it on snow on A/S and it handled it just fine.
Speaking of handling, I’m really surprised at how well mine handles. The Mach’s did get some suspension upgrades over the GT’s, but I can’t imagine it’s to different. I find it fun. I wouldn’t mind it being more buttoned down and having more steering feel, but that’s what the aftermarket is for.
![]() 02/26/2016 at 12:13 |
|
Hahaha I mean he has a point. But after hearing that I would clean but the seats a little bit more carefully then I would have before.
![]() 02/26/2016 at 12:18 |
|
That is impressive your Dad’s Mustang does so well on mpg.
As for the clutch I have heard it is heavy but like you said I am sure people get used to it as they drive it more. The interior is needless to say unfortunate but there is no way it is worse than my 2000 S10.
Glad you like the handling that seems to be what I hear the most negatives about. But again it would have to be better than my trucks.
![]() 02/26/2016 at 12:49 |

exactly.
Also, he said this right in front of my wife.

yeah the dude was very, very weird.
this was like, the tip of the iceberg
